Encrypted mnemonic phrase backup is the encryption of the mnemonic phase. It includes a mnemonic phrase password and a ciphertext QR code.
The mnemonic phrase password is a password of 8 to 32 characters set by yourself, which is used for secondary encryption of the mnemonic phrase. The ciphertext QR code is generated by encrypting the mnemonic phrase with the above password.
Since the mnemonic password is the key message associated with the mnemonic, CoinEx Vault does not save it and does not provide password recovery. We recommend that you back up both the ciphertext QR code and the passphrase password and keep them separate.
When importing a wallet using the encrypted mnemonic, both the secret QR code and the mnemonic password are required, and as long as hackers don't have both, they can't take control of your wallet. Once you lose the QR code or mnemonic password, your assets are lost forever.
CoinEx Vault provides two backup methods, this tutorial takes the encrypted backup as an example, if you need to back up by keeping a set of English words, please check Backup of mnemonics.
Step 1: Click the “Switch” button on the top right of the asset card, or click “Me - Wallet Management” to access the wallet list page.
Step 2: Find the wallet and click the “Backup” button.
Step 3: After entering the security password to complete the security verification, carefully read and check the box to agree to each security tip, and then click “Encrypted Backup”.
Step 4: Set a password of 8-32 digits for the mnemonic (double encryption for the mnemonic) and keep the password safe, click “Generate QR Code”.
Step 5: Click “Save and Verify.” The image will be saved to your mobile phone album.
Note: To save the QR code picture, you need to permit access to the device's album.
Step 6: Encrypted backup of mnemonic words is successful! You can scan the saved QR code and input the mnemonic password to verify its correctness, or click ‘x’ on the top right to close the pop-up window.
